The Digital Freedom Fund is establishing a consultancy roster for talented and passionate professional editors who are committed to advancing digital rights and social justice. As a Professional Editor on our consultancy roster, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with us on various projects and initiatives aimed at driving positive change in the digital rights space through strategic litigation, research, and advocacy efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Editing and Proofreading:

  • Edit and proofread a variety of content, including legal briefs, research reports, policy documents, press releases, blog posts, and educational materials, ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to DFF's messaging and branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with legal experts, researchers, and communications professionals to refine complex legal and technical content for diverse audiences.
Strategic Communication Support:

  • Provide strategic input and guidance on messaging, tone, and style to ensure that all communications materials effectively communicate key legal arguments, research findings, and advocacy priorities in line with DFF's editing guide
  • Coordinate with legal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to facilitate timely feedback and approvals for key documents and publications.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Ensure all content and communications materials adhere to DFF's quality standards, branding guidelines, and legal requirements.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and audits of content to identify and address any inconsistencies, inaccuracies, or potential risks.
Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging legal and policy issues related to digital rights.
  • Stay informed about relevant case law, legislative developments, and best practices to inform DFF's strategic litigation and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a professional editor, preferably in the legal, advocacy, or nonprofit sector, with a strong understanding of legal terminology and complex subject matter.
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, and writing skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with legal research methodologies, citation styles, and academic writing standards.
  • Proficiency in document management systems, editing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat), and collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to digital rights, social justice, and human rights principles, with a demonstrated understanding of the intersection between law, technology, and society.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and native speaker in French or Spanish is a strong asset.
